The Lancaster family started the agency in 1972. Bobbie Lancaster saw a need to protect client interests and over a period of 26 years built the agency to become the world's preeminent philatelic auction agency. Upon her death, Jean Lancaster took control and handed the reins to her husband, Tony, in the late 1990's.
The agency was acquired by the well known stamp approvals dealer Michael G. Read in 2012. Michael bought his approvals business in 1976, working on a part-time basis and progressing to full-time in 1993. He now operates one
of the largest dealerships in the UK, covering nearly every country in the world. With a lifetime's knowledge of international philately to draw on, Michael was well placed to take ownership of the Lancaster agency.
Over recent years, Michael has represented Stanley Gibbons at the four leading London stamp auction houses, gaining an exemplary knowledge of the pricing and market trends of the world's finest stamps and covers.
With a combination of experience, service and unrivaled philatelic knowledge, Lancaster is now well placed to serve the needs of professional philatelists, investors and stamp dealers worldwide.
